Now that you’ve learned the basics in How to Shop, let’s dig a little more into the Top Menu on your Mall site. We’ve worked hard to make the stores you are most likely to use easy to find.
Look up at the top menu and click through the menu items:
Shopping List – you create this in your Back Office (Manage My Mall --> Shopping List)
Brand Name Stores – all the big name stores you want to shop at.
Business Needs Stores -- the place to find business software and supplies you will want to have for your business.
Personal Needs Stores – the place to find all those items you buy everyday anyway! Need toilet paper or soap? Here’s the place to find it!
Stores Paying On Gift Cards – stores that pay rebates on gift cards, as well as stores for all those gift giving occasions when buying on your Mall will give back to you as you give to others. PLEASE NOTE: Not all stores that offer gift cards pay out rebates on them. Click on the "List of Gift Card Stores" button to see a complete list of stores that DO pay on gift cards. Always check this list and the magnifying glass. You will also see at a glance whether a store pays out on the purchase of gift cards. It is listed in red print, directly below each store.
Favorite Stores – You will see this link on the top menu bar of your mall. Currently, there are no malls listed in your favorites. It’s time to fix that!! PLEASE do not confuse this with Internet Explorer Favorites. And it’s probably a good time to mention that you should NEVER bookmark a store link. (If you don’t enter that store through your Mall you will NOT receive credit for your purchase.)
OK – back to your Mall Favorites… Log into your back office. On the left-hand menu, under "Manage My
Mall," you will see a link labeled “My Favorite Stores.”
Click on that link and you will see 2 list boxes.
The one on the left lists all active stores.
On the right is your list of favorite stores – which should be empty (unless you've been here before).
Highlight a store in the left box and click the >> button between the boxes to move it to the right.
When you have your favorite stores chosen, click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Return to your mall, click on Favorite Stores, and you should see the stores you selected.
You can select up to 24 stores.
To remove a store, simply click on it in the Favorite Stores box and use the << button to move it back over to the List of Stores box.
You can also choose which stores you want to see on your Mall when you first arrive on the site. Click the radio button for Featured Stores if you want to see the stores we choose because of special deals or offers. These change frequently. Or choose My Favorite Stores to see the stores you've chosen. You can, of course, always return here to change your choice.
Always remember to click the "Save" button.
Please take the time to do this now.
It will truly make your Mall yours, and it will make it so much more fun to shop!
Store History – You will also see this link on the top menu of your mall. As you click store links to make your purchases, we record those clicks to measure the volume of business we are doing. I hope every one of you has 12 stores listed on that page. If not, you haven’t explored your mall – which means you probably haven’t purchased anything either. Yes – I’m beating the shopping drum. Anyway, you do not need to manage this link. It’s managed by the system sorted by the latest click listed first.
Green Stores – If you haven’t seen this link already, it’s located on the top menu bar of your mall. The stores in this link are managed by the administrators and list all stores in the mall that are Earth Friendly. We are still revising this list as time allows for research.
Free Shipping Stores -- This is exactly what it says. In this link you'll find a list of stores that offer FREE shipping!
Make sure you go look at each one so you’ll begin to get an understanding of just what is in your Mall. If you were buying a new brick & mortar Mall wouldn’t you go wander around in it until you knew all the stores? Your Power Mall is no different. Get to know it!

Shopping Tip: Watch for a magnifying glass in any of the store’s Condition column and be sure to click on it. It will tell you about any special conditions set by that particular merchant that will affect your purchases (and commissions). These conditions are subject to change by the merchants so please check them at least once a month before you shop.
Business Building Tip:Use your favorite search engine and search for "paid to read" sites. This is a pretty inexpensive way to advertise as you can find sites that give packages out starting at a dollar or two that include links and banners. (Larry Dull, Indiana)
Change the World Tip: Reach out to individuals or organizations in need of help. Assign someone to scan local newspapers, and listen to the radio and television for individuals and/or organizations that have specific needs. Extend an offer to help meet a need. Let groups of students identify the needs which they have a special desire to help. Giving them ownership will increase their commitment. (From our 101 Ways Your School Can Change the World ebook)
