Power Bite # 65 - What If You Don't Know Anyone?

Hello MPM Member,

We’ve talked a lot about making your warm market list, then contacting all those people.  But let’s face reality here.  You might be one of those people who just moved into town yesterday, after living for 20 years in the African Bush.  Or you might have been in so many home-based businesses that anyone you know runs when they see you coming.  You’ve thought about buying leads of people wanting a business, but you really don’t have the money.  NO PROBLEM – as long as you’re willing to do the things it will take to be a success!

We’ve already shown you how to build on the Internet if you have no money. But if you’re more of a people person, this Power Bite training letter will give you what you need to know to build your business with the people around you – whether you know them or not!

This letter is going to concentrate on what you do if your warm market is fairly non-existent.  Don’t be discouraged if that is the case for you. One of my friends, Stuart, learned a valuable lesson years ago when he started with another company. Though not all of it applies to MPM, the truth it holds is very powerful.  He had just moved into a new town. He didn’t know anyone, except his brother, Steve – the one who had introduced him to his new company. Things didn’t look very promising but he was determined to make it work.  Here’s what he did…

One day Steve threw him the keys to his Mercedes and said, “Go find people for me to talk to. Just get them to a meeting.” Stuart took the car and started driving around. He was in a panic, his thoughts racing; How do you meet people? What do you do?  How do you meet people? What do you do?

Hours later, covered with sweat in a well air-conditioned Mercedes, he was no closer to an answer. He looked down at the gas tank, realized he was near empty, and then realized he had no idea where to get diesel fuel.  At the first stop light he rolled his window down and asked the person in the car next to him. “Are you from around here?”  Then he proceeded to ask for directions to a gas station that sold diesel.

He drove off, his thoughts still racing – How do you meet people? What do you do? How do you meet people? What do you… He stopped in mid-thought, realizing he had just indeed met someone! Now he was eager to get to the gas station.

Stuart jumped out of his car, started pumping gas, and then turned to the man behind him. He knew what to do.  “Hey, are you from around here?”

“Yeah,” the man responded. “Where do you want to go?”

Whoops!  He hadn’t thought far enough head for that question.Thankfully he was able to think fast. “Oh, no, I don’t need to go anywhere. I just had a question. I’ve got a company that is exploding all over the country, and I’m looking for people who want to earn some extra income from home.  Do you know anyone like that?”

“Yeah. Me. What is it?”

Oh no!  Another question he wasn’t ready for!  More fast thinking…  “Look, I don’t have time to talk about it right now. Let me get your phone number. I’ll give you a call.” He got the number and drove off.

He’d found his answer! Over the next week he spent 8 days asking people, “Hey, are you from around here?” The next week, 18 of those people showed up at brother Steve’s meeting.  6 months later he had by-passed everyone else in Steve’s organization! How? He spent 8 hours a day asking that question!

How much easier is it for you with MPM? Find people who are looking. You don’t have to drag them to a meeting.  We don’t have any!  Instead of asking for a phone #, just ask them for their email address and shoot an E-card to them the same day. You can hand them an Invitation Card or a Flyer. All you want to do is get them to your website.

Okay, here are some variations on that.

Then listen intently.  People love to talk about themselves and you will discover things about them that are
very valuable to you in determining if this is the type of person you want to work with.

Invariably they’ll ask you back, “What do YOU do?”

Here is your chance!  “I have a business that pays me every time I shop - even when I'm buying groceries
      and gas. I love it!”

"What is it?" (Trust me – they’ll ask!)

“You know, the best way for me to share it with you is by sending you a link to my website.  What is your
email address?”

Pretty simple!

Get into the habit of talking with everyone you meet – whether the clerk in the grocery store check out, or the person behind you while you’re pumping gas.  ALWAYS HAVE AN INVITATION CARD OR FLYER WITH YOU! Have a notebook where you can write names and email addresses.

Initiate the smile in every interaction.  Ask them about themselves, and find out what’s important to them and what their hot buttons are.  Build trust and rapport.  Observe the way they are with people, and try to determine if they are someone you would like to work with.

The MPM System will do the work for you.  All you have to do is expose people to it!

See, none of this sounds too difficult does it?  It really is just a numbers game.  If you talk to enough people, you will build an incredible business.

So here we are.  You have your list.  You know how to talk to your warm market.  You know how to approach your cold market.  The rest is up to you.  YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO GO DO IT!!

We believe in you!!

Business Building Tip:  Use your favorite search engine to find free leads. Here are a few: listbandit.com, simplerleads.com, tripleyourlist.com. A word of caution: not all "free" sites are really free. Sometimes the only thing that is free is the actual signing up and everything else requires payment. (Kari Young, Pennsylvania)

Change the World Tip:  Start a video/audio library. Ask people to donate their "G" rated and Christian videos and DVDs, tapes and CDs. Set it up in a central location (the Fellowship Hall is great!) and check them out just like you do books. You can also accept donations and/or purchase movies and tape series as well.
